The Everglades Challenge is over and work resumes on the Tridarka Raider.  Hopefully I'll be ready for next year's challenge.

Here is the manu being laminated from three pieces of Ash cut to a rough shape.  After the epoxy set I used a planer and belt sander to clean it up.

Then the rough manu was bonded to the stem.  At this point it is pretty ugly because the rough manu is about 2 1/4 inches wide top to bottom and needs a lot of shaping.

After using several different tools: drill, jig saw, planer, belt sander, random orbital sander, wood rasp, grinder, and sanding block the manu is beginning to look pretty good.

Here I've put the vaka back in the forms so I could finish up with the manu right side up - bad karma to finish it upside down!  I'll leave the top unfinished until I carve the figure head.

While that was going on I also worked on the amas and vaka deck framing.

Deck framing for the amas is pretty simple.  One carlin down the centerline is all it takes.  Of course that is after the deck beams for the aka attachment points and inspection hatches are already done.

Deck framing for the vaka bow is a bit more complex but very similar to the framing at the stern.  A little cleanup is in order, but this is "unseen" and I won't waste too much time on it.

No picture yet, but I also started building the boom.  The next post will have a picture.

      Looks great Chief,
but are you sure it's not already stiff enough with carbon on the inside? It is beautiful and would be a shame to cover it up! Remember as soon as you add decking it will get stiffer still...

Keep at it, you're doing a great job, and in record time!

If I had used 6mm ply I would not add carbon, but with 4mm I really need it.

Also, the boat is going to be painted anyway, but it's a shame to cover that nice wood just the same.
