Finally it is time to start skinning the Vaka.

Prepping to flip the vaka.  The floor of the shop is pretty much marked up already, but I put down plastic anyway to catch epoxy drips.  Notice the large saw horses.  These are perfect supports for the vaka.

The vaka has been flipped with the floor of the cockpit resting on the saw horses.

Since the first layer will be carbon I precoated the wood with epoxy.  If the first layer was glass, I'd probably laminate the first coat onto dry wood.  Carbon is just harder to work with than glass.  The hull looks so good that it is a shame I have to cover it with black cloth.  This epoxy has to dry before the next step.

While the epoxy dries I switched over to the working on the port side ama.

This shows the rear deck being strapped and weighted down.  I decided to cut the deck in two pieces because I didn't think I would have enough working time to do the whole deck at one time.

Then the process was repeated on the forward deck.

It really is a shame to see that wood finish disappear, we felt the same way about our hulls, but yours looks so much better!

Hey, your hulls looked great and performed great too.  But even if I skipped the carbon I still plan to paint the hulls.
