The Leeboard Guards

It's been awhile since my last post and it's about time to bring us up to speed. I promise at least one post per day until I get caught up.
The leeboard guards have to be finished before the center deck can go on so that is the next step.
The leeboard guards are composed of three backing blocks and five pieces that have to fit precisely and conform to the three dimensional curves of the hull. When completed the upper and lower guard faces have to be perfectly aligned with the centerline of the hull and in the same plane. Fun, fun, fun.
All pieces except the lower and upper backing blocks were cut and shaped from a single piece of teak.

The inboard backing block is in place. This backs up the lower leeboard guard.

Drilling the holes for the lower guard. I forgot to drill the holes before I cut the bevel to fit the hull so I had to jig it up betweein some 2x4's to keep it vertical.

The lower guard is glued in place. Note I had to sand thru the primer. Do things in the proper order and you won't have to do extra work!
These two pieces have to align with the centerline of the hull and be in the same plane or the leeboard will jam.

Dry fitting the upper guard and making sure the leeboard actually fits.

Glueing in the upper guard. You can just see the upper backing blocks. Finally this job is done.
